Most of the sediment will just pass through the valve. The slightly decreased life of the valve is preferred to repeated nuisance calls for debris in the screen.

That’s your opinion. Everyone knows fluidmasters are sensitive to trash in the water.


Eliminating trash in the water, ( aka filtering) is the answer. Its really simple.

If the filters are clogging…..then you have another problem to address.

Are your customers on well water?

Some are. Properly sized whole house sediment filter with regular changes is better at catching rocks.

I’m becoming a fan of a good sediment filter on every system whether it’s well or municipal. Keeping the debris out of the water keeps a lot of moving parts of the water system very happy.

I’ve used those before. Some TOTo one piece toilets uses those.

Straight from Home Depot with the Gray top high refill rate.

It’s a total POS just like the rest of the plumbing industry.

I also use the Fluidmaster Pro. When Fergusons Was out of the Pro I had to get a 400a from Home Depot. You can tell the difference in quality because the 400a has a chincy POS shank nut.

I try and throttle down the angle stop to get rid of the squeak but then the sound of the water filling is almost as loud and annoying as the squeak

Those are super thin. They scare me. Last one I did I re-used the old nut. I wouldn’t want that in my house while out scouting locations to fold my dishes.

I wouldn’t use them either, but they probably would be fine if it was just finger tight.

Yeah throttling stops can cause problems. We’ve all done it.
