U bend / Trap installed correctly?

1863 Views 13 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  After Hour plum
We have been having terrible odors coming from under our kitchen sink. I've tried all sorts of vinegar and backing soda or store bought cleaning chemicals, lemons and ice cubes, boiling water, etc. but no luck. It seems to be the worst on hot days, but may also be related to when the dishwasher is ran as well.

I started reading a few blogs, one question I have is if the U-bend? trap? is actually installed correctly in order to create the barrier to prevent the fumes coming up from our sewer. We've run tons of water down it, its not dried out, but wondering if the U portion doesn't drop enough for it to be effective? Should it be lower?

My biggest fear is that the landlord doesn't have any vents installed and its forcing the odors up.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Could be your Hot water heater.

Are you a licensed plumber or part of the plumbing trade in some way? Did you read the forum rules? Might want to review them.

I’d say call this number on your disposal and ask them what you should do, but I’d be willing to bet they’ll tell you to hire a real plumber though.

Thanks, good tip.

No, not a plumber. Just a guy who is renting an apartment and tired of his wife yelling at him about how smelly it is.
Once I was on a call and the bathroom smelled like “hot Chinatown garbage”, turns out the guys wife took a big steamy dump 5 mins before I got there…
Thanks, that just cost you an extra $50..

*NOTE, to stupid homeowners:
Please do NOT drop a deuce “35-45 mins”before your plumber is arrives to service your bathroom.

so you’re not a “Lic’d Plumber” and you’re just a renter…

#1 did you miss the part about “this forum is for professional plumbers only”? Cuz it is.

#2 call your landlord to take care of the issue.

#3 hahaha, you’re wife calls the shots.. you have to “like” what she likes you her, I mean your pizza…
does she let you see your friends and go out for drinks or do you have to lie to her and tell her you’re working late or going to help your mother pick out wall colors and fabrics for the new curtains?

Hazard pay
Hazard pay is a catch 22 because you only get to collect hazard pay if you survive the hazard!

So the question is, just how rank are his wife's dumps?

So you admit to violating forum rules. At least you’re honest, I’ll give you that.
