There was a telemarketer working with one of the local news organizations here that was trying to sell me on a digital marketing campaign to appear on their website. I asked about local tv spots and he said if my budget was less than $200,000 my campaign wouldn't be effective. He told me the companies that do advertise spend upwards of $500,000 per year. I told him thanks for the info then hung up on him.

Cable TV? Aren't they like dead pages?
250 channels with nothing on...
I threw Comcast out of my house years ago...
The internet replaced regular TV...

I download or stream what I want...

thanks. I was told about 1500 a month---- Just lately in town I saw a commercial with the reality star that does the "dirty jobs" show.... he did a commercial for Ben Franklin and also One Hour electric... Cant recall his name.

The fact is They were actually pretty good commercials and I wonder how much Ben had to pay to get that guy to basically endorse them....$$$$$ Its a shame he endorsed them but for a boat load of money I would do the same thing if I could

We tried the cable thing and i got all excited then it was like crickets.i personally would never do it again. They tend to have their spending favorites and if you stay up real late you can catch a glimpse of your commercial. I tried the movie theater ad/commercial and got a pretty solid response.

A friend in the TV ad business said if you're going to do it, do either the local news or live sporting events, those are more expensive but people make a point to watch them live and not TIVO them.

xof courseIt is all talk right now, but I was told about the same thing from the sales lady... you can pay a fortune to do a sporting event with your local football team on TV but odds are over million people would see the add...that night...

Or you can be a cheap ass and do commericals during the dead times in the mornings or late at night with re-runs like on the history channel with storage wars or pawn stars... .

of course it has to have creative content that sticks in peoples minds
and you have to run it for a month or two before folks will remember you

at this time its all talk and I dont want to shell out a lot of money with
nothing but the sound of crickets chirping for 6 months......

I was told commercials are good for TOMA (top of mind awareness); however, that takes months of repetition. When I looked into, I thought it was too expensive for branding and / or TOMA.

Most of us need 'call to action' advertising.

Redwood - Got a chuckle out of that one. A lot of the 'old folks' still watch T.V. though. And NO, I am not one of the 'old folks,' nor do I watch live television / cable commercials. Internet or Netflix all the way.

Commercial breaks = bathroom breaks, refill drinks, get snacks, check e-mail, text friends, let the dog out, etc. Basically anything BUT watch the commercials.

I traded work for a.radio commercial. The plumbing got done, but the commercial never got aired.

It sounded good when he sent.me the audio, but an insider told.me the ad never ran. Lesson Learned.
If you have a copy of the audio you could make a video by pairing it with pics of your work, equipment, products, logo, & smiling mugshot :) I know there's several apps out there for phones/tablets & PCs. Or, either DIY or bribe a kid relative.

No it doesn't. I just had the conversation with a framer who wanted to trade work. I told him cash was easier to agree on when it came to value.

A free lunch with a hot chick is priceless.

You've cut your traditional ads and now you're looking for other conservative avenues, aint ya.

All ads work for someone somewhere. You have to figure out what your customers are doing. Not mine, as I guarantee you my customers are nothing like yours. I can't remember the last time a t.v. was on when I went to a house.

going out to lunch with the hot girl was ok even though she probably could be my daughter or if we lived down in Kentucky she could be grand-daughter

YP is the only thing I cut big... everything else is still chugging along..]we seem to be going through a slump right now probably due to this late summer and early fall drought.....

Actually these slumps always come for different reasons.....I am tearing out a Sterling bathtub and installing a sterling 5 foot shower on Wednesday for my mother-in-law...

I KNOW that doing this free gratis job will jump start everything tomorrow I will probably be swamped with 40 calls... and regret planning the shower tear out on Wednesday....

that is how the mojo goes....

She would be your sister-daughter down there.

I confused you with another thread, I think, but okay. All ad campaigns should be targeted to your customers. Think of it like you're selling condoms....which market do you go after and where do they hang out.

I want to hear more about this condom/advertising concept.

Are we talking color, size, lubed, dry, tipped, flavored, ribbed for her pleasure,
turned inside out for your pleasure, natural, synthetic, spermicide added, ....

It's true we need to form our advertising to local needs but ..

We don't want to breed?

Redwood, Phat Cat et al who stream,
Do you stream live sporting events? And if so, on average how much does it cost?
Not having live sports would be a deal breaker in my house.
Plus, we record some TV programs. If I had to buy those plus sports programming, I might as well stick to cable.
I guess an HD antenna set to pick up local stations would cover broadcast shows, but what about made for cable?

Not a sports fan, so I cannot answer. However, the YP rep. told me about a device you could buy to get cable channels through local channels that broadcast differently.
