I just installed a tankless Rheem water heater 11 gpm. I have not yet plumbed the return for the recirc. I get not only cold water sandwich, but the hot water fluctuates in the shower (probably because someone turns on a sink.) I am considering installing a 6 gal. tank downstream to buffer out fluctuations. If I install it in series, the tankless will feed into the tank, and the tank will rarely have to heat, and I will get the buffer I need to eliminate fluctuations. If I install in parallel, I might get increased flow because the tank will have a higher flow rate. Which is best? And if I install in parallel, will a flow control on the tank outlet be an option to maximizing the performance?

Like a solar powered flashlight
Those were/are a real thing. Ever seen the solar powered garden lights? They work pretty darn well.

Somewhere I have a solar powered light. It has a 6" fluorescent bulb on the edge, a ~2"x5" solar panel on one side, and ~8 rechargeable Ni-Cd cells inside. Worked great for quite a number of years and then the bulb or cells died and I never bothered to fix it. You just leave it on the windowsill during the day. You could also plug it in to recharge it.

Found it online!!!

I have a cool folding “solar panel charger” that I use when canoeing and backpacking that charges 2x AA batteries- to charge any USB chargeable device. folded it’s about the size of a man’s wallet, unfolded laying in the sun it’s about 4” x 24”

Found it online!!!

Yeah I know,
I guess that joke didn’t stand the test of time, but it goes back to the 80’s where solar panels didn’t charge batteires, it was along with the inflatable dart board and screen doors on submarines.
I have the garden lights, and a flashlight that can be charged via solar panel.

I may do one soon where I remove a 80 gal electric in the middle of the house and install a tankless on the outside of the house near the gas meter. Rather than circulate the water we may install a 10 gal. Tank close to where 80 gal was and feed that 10 gal tank with the tankless.

This will free up a closet for an extra bedroom and give the homeowner endless hot water almost instantly without recirculating. The 10gal will fit perfect in a 5’ tall crawlspace and get it out of the house.

The point may not have been made clear. Using a tank to augment a tankless defeats the whole purpose of going tank-less in the first place. The whole point of a tankless W/H is to eliminate the tank entirely.

Dont just explain it to him, Tommy....

.make him send pictures and diagrams
as to what he wants to do.....:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
