Storm drain rakes

367 Views 9 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  Cavemanbrain
I don’t do too many storm drains and catch basins, but I got subbed to jet one the other day, the guy asked if I had a metal rake to pull some of the crap out. I was going to pick up a new one for the house and throw my old one in the truck, then I saw this bad boy. Anyone use anything like this, or have another suggestion?

Man, I have a roll of rabbit fence sitting under my deck, I could take a few ft of that, tie some rope to each corner, and use it like a pool skimmer

As an apprentice- We used to use a giant Spoon to scoop out catch basins debris, along with leaves, dirt/sand we pulled out a bunch of random stuff, stolen car lic plates, the barrel of a shot gun that was sawed off, wallets, brass knuckles… etc.

A few years later they got a Vactor Truck to suck out catch basins so we really didn’t get to see what gems were being sucked out.

I’ve been pushing for that vac truck, but I got the flex shaft so I’ll probably have to wait

Hahah I get it.
The same d1ck I worked for in the 90’s, b1tched at us cuz we were “working to slow” to break up 50’ of 10”-12” thick concrete floor (w/ rebar) in a mall to run some drains. yet all we had to work with was a beat up 15 y/o jackhammer he bought from rental shop that was sell off their old crap. The jackhammer kept crapping out, the cord was messed up and would only work if held in the right position and we got electrocuted if we held the cord the wrong way. To top it all off the jackhammer basically just hit hard enough to “tickling” the concrete.

fcuk- part of the reason why I work for myself.

I would’ve taped the trigger on and sealed the air intake then went to lunch.

And yet somehow you all worked fast enough for him to be the lowest bidder and presumably turn a profit. Kudos to you guys.

the last time Iused the snow fence was a parking lot drain in a sketchy part of town. Pulled an entire twin bed frame out of a 10” storm drain, headboard and all. I got pics somewhere. Glad there wasn’t a body in it when they stuffed it down there.

But did it have a Rent-A-Center sticker on it?
