Sewage Pit Connections

1079 Views 34 Replies 13 Participants Last post by  Shadyear
Hey guys, newbie here. Looking to finish a rough in bathroom in my basement myself and am running into an issue. I can only find one pipe coming down from upstairs near the sewage pit. I'm not sure if it's a waste or vent pipe but when a toilet flushes I can hear it pretty well w my ear to the pipe so I think it's waste. How could this be installed and pass inspection with no vent pipe? Any suggestions on why you think this might be or what I could do about it? Picture attached, please excuse the litter box!

What did your master tell you? Sounds like you need to work for a better shop if they're Sending you out on calls like this without better supervision. It must be awfully embarrassing to be scratching your head in front of the customer like that. It's not your fault, it's your boss's. You really should be working with direct supervision of a journeyman on jobs like this.

Check out Article 3.4.5.1A in the plumbing code.

So check this out. Homeowner wanted a dog bath stubbed in the basement. It's about 7-8 feet away from septic pit. Is this a vent I can tie in to?

Post pics to the site, I don’t want to “download” pics, PDF, an app or anything else just to help another plumber.

Dawg, check with your boss. We don't know where you're at or your local codes. If you are the boss and it's iffy just check with your inspector 😔 it's really not that hard. Your poor customer must be so concerned about your indecision.

I'm having a discussion with admin at the moment, he said intros are not mandatory so that means anyone can post without being a pro. Let's see how that goes.

Hummmm..
isn’t that a rule???
so if that’s not a mandatory rule then being a Pro-only forum…
never mind.
= $$$

I guess if everyone had to post an intro of 1000+ characters before it would “unlock” access to any other part of the forum, the top dawgs would make any $$$.

I was scolded for denouncing that scammer using the profile of a doctor the other day. So I lifted the ban, they can take care of it now.
I told the guy that means anyone can join and post, diy, hacks, illegal GC, scammers, spammers etc. I'm waiting for a reply so in the mean time this place is "whatever".

I don't get it this forum has been exclusively pro only for over a decade. Is there a way to make more sections private like the pr section?

Hey admins:
nice to see you are backing up your Mods, for doing “your” jobs (for free), by scolding them for following “The forums rules”..
but that’s cool as long as you’re getting paid and this site is making $$$.

if the Admins aren’t backing up you guys as mods- I’ll pull my premium membership.

How about excavate your basement 10' feet deep and backfill with gravel, set your toilet flange and shower drain unpiped directly above the gravel and let the sewage soak into the gravel?

Easy, peasy, no plumbing skills required.

We can use the lounge for everything. They wouldn't create more private sections , it's all about ad revenue from exterior views.

You'd have to create a thread in the help section for them to see this. He asked why I banned the scammer and I was scolded because I posted a screen shot of the doctor's online presence from public domain with the intent of "doxing".

Maybe its just me but if this becomes another diy forum what makes it any different from the many other and more active diy forums?

I think a DIY section as long as its hidden from the rest of the forum would be entertaining. This place is somewhat dull at times. But we all cant post awesomeness every day. Well, unless terrance takes more photos.

A lot of the time I don't post certain information/pictures specifically because I don't want non-plumbers to see it.

I can't post pictures from mobile which is a huge pitd and often stops me from bothering.

The only reason I am on this forum is because it's for plumbers and not anyone else. If they change that I will leave. I am not here to discuss simple principles of plumbing. I am here to talk about the subtle, finer points of how myself and others perform this job. I am here to broaden my horizon in the career of plumbing. The average idiot that is putting Teflon tape on everything except pipe threads has no value to me.
