Has anyone been getting more and more customers that have out of state or out of area phone numbers?


1st customer of mine that called today was a 502 # from Lexington KY
2nd customer was a 773 # from Illinois
4th one was a 213 # from Los Angeles California

All were local customers.

I'm thinking the local economy has shifted people from other states due to jobs and they are holding onto to their original phone numbers.


For years, I would instantly let the call that was from out of state go to voicemail or just hang up on them.

To have 3 in one day is unusual to the 3 I get normally in a week.


Cell phone calls are so common at this point that I cannot reverse search the number anymore, or track the location the call is coming from if the exchange number led to a certain area.

It's a plus, and I can determine whether or not I want to work in that area or not.

Iv'e been getting a lot of out of town landlords or maintenance companies calling me. I answer everything, even blocked numbers. I do have a new advertisers numbers entered into my phone so I know to avoid them though.

South Florida this time of year gets alot of out-of-state visitors. So it is not uncommon to get phone calls from area codes from everywhere. Last week I recieved a phone call with a (203) area code and I thought it was Redwood, I was like . When I answered it, it turned out to be a longtime cust. of mine who has a residence in Conn. as well as down here in S. Fla.

I answer everything but 0000000 and goofy numbers like that.

Many are issued company cell phones, and lately more IP phone numbers from their corporate office area codes.

what is going on is people want to keep their telephone numbers and dont want to have to get a new cell number
when they move around the usa.... I think they also passed some sort of law that you could take it with you when you changed cell providors....

the only one that can be total a--holes about letting you keep your 20 year old number is A.T.+T.

I think this is happening due to the number of cell phones. Poeple use cell phones instead of land lines and bring the number with them when they move.

We have a ton of snow birds that rent out there properties

Interesting thought but I don't think it will happen. Although people want to maintain their own number and maybe even some measure of anonymity, they will likely still want their plumber to be known and local.

At least 10% of the calls we get are from out-of-state area codes. A large percentage are from people who moved here and only have a cell phone. We have noticed more people are doing away with landlines.

We have a "Do Not Answer" list, all other calls are answered. If we answer the phone, we have a chance to make a sale; whereas, if we don't answer, there is NO chance.

I want every call for two reasons. 1. Opportunity to make money and 2. One less call a competitor gets.

I answer all my calls unless it is a weird #. I love to talk with a telemarketer if I'm not busy.

I get calls from 00000000, and (486)119-31, and of course the "unknown".

Google Voice & other IP related telephony systems pass weird numbers.

Years ago, that's exactly what it used to be. Now, it's a whole different game entirely and it seems like it came like a huge wave.
