I’ve never seen a valve or drain dedicated for an expansion tank. Sounds like a waste of time and fittings, and therefore money. A rag and a bucket are coming in if there’s a drain or not. Why complicate it, to save yourself 45 seconds every 5 years it needs swapped out?

Our code dictates “appropriate slope favorable to induce a draft” and two screws minimum per joint. At least so I’ve been told by others and an inspector when questioned.

I would guess nothing prohibits an isolation or drain valve no matter how unnecessary.

That code specifically relates to the t&p of a storage tank or heater and could not be construed to apply to an expansion tank or any other device other than a t&p
