Hey guys, I’m a first year apprentice working for a smaller service company in CT. At 40 I finally figured out what I want to do and after a year of job hunting I landed a job with a company willing to give someone with no formal mechanical experience a shot. We mostly do residential service, and I mostly do drain cleaning these days as I’ve found myself in the role of lead drain cleaner, I suspect, at least partially because I bust my ass and I’m willing to do whatever it takes to get it done.

I’ve had many long days, dodged **** geysers, been hit by **** geysers, eventually learned how to avoid **** geysers, been in some sketchy places while working, and every day I feel lucky to be where I am.

I found this site after one of those long battles with a clog where I zigged instead of zagged, and decided to do some research because any mistake I’ve made, someone else has already made and figured out at better way.

Enough rambling…
Loves:
pawn shop tool finds
repiping anything cast iron or galvanized
an organized truck/tool bag
jobs where there’s enough work for the plumber I’m with and I to do our own thing
Cumberland Farms pizza
nicotine pouches
caffeine

Hates:
brass caps that haven’t been touched in 50 yrs
making yet another trip to the truck, anything in a multi family house, condo, or apartment
Bringing the Spartan 2001 up or down anything more that 3 stairs
Downtime
Working in businesses while they are open

Quit the nicotine. Are you signed up as an apprentice? Are they counting your hours? Glad to have you here.

The nicotine has been in slow decline, went from smoking to vaping, now mostly just pouches to keep me from snapping when I’m stressed.
Yup, signed up, hours counted, half my school is covered, they were very quick to get those things squared away

Yup, actually started the classroom hrs before I found a job, so I’m on track to finish before my 4yrs of otj.
I only ask as apparently my 14yr license here in FL isn't good enough for CT to allow me to take their exam because of a lack of 576 classroom hours. Had a project in Meredian CT that i was asked to do, but, im not good enough for that state.

Classic CT, shortage of plumbers, but also making it harder to work here
