I'm thinking about it. I don't want a regular laptop cause I'm afraid I will damage it beyond recovery.

I haven't used the toughbook, but we did have a regular laptop on one of our trucks which was ruined by one drink spill. Seeing how this performs, I'm thinking we might look into outfitting a few of our trucks with these. Good find!

Everything I do late at night when I get home. Entering everything into quickbooks. With this I would do invoices, and can email it directly to the property management companies the min. I'm done.

Tracking Inventory, Tracking customers perosnal info: addresses, birthday's, emails, phone numbers. Having it with me all the time is the primary reason. Also when I need to look up something on line and I'm in the other city etc..

I won't have t do it when I get home late and I'm tired.

Toughbook would also serve for the pics for the property management companies to approve the job while I'm there.I just email them the pics while in the van.

I have Palm Treo but I cannot do most of the things I can with the laptop.

Good seeing you the other night and I suspect I know why you are asking. Don't forget to look at the Dell XFR.

They seem to have a lower base price and have had great reviews. Here is a video after a guy ran his over with a car (accidently).

In addition, if you don't mind a refurbished one Dell has them starting at $1,600 up to about $2,000 depending on what you are looking for.

Had an older Toughbook, used for several years, then it crashed & was not worth fixing. Got a much cheaper Toshiba, have been using it for two years now, no problems, works great. I use for everything related to my business and also as a gps with microsoft streets & trips software. Couldn't live without it now.

I've got an IBM Thinkpad in my van.
I run GPS through the USB port,
Printer for proposals.
I also use it to e-mail camera inspections to our excavation guys.
Surf durring any down time....
Got abunch of parts info for faucets, toilets etc
Videos to show the customer of relining and pipe bursting...

I don't want the latest and the greatest...
Put something too good in there someone might feel the urge to make it theirs... It needs a boot password so even if they did take it they got nothing but still why drive home with a missing lap top and a busted window... Run a clunker it's safer.

I'd say $450 is about the max I'd put into a laptop for the van...
And use a stand so it doesn't get drinks spilled on it sheesh!
Mine runs the sound system too!
I've got 30 years of stolen music to play...
