Have been sent to high rise buildings in LA a few times. I always marvel at some of the pipe sizes I see, these PRV stations are pretty cool as well The brand that makes them is Claval. I'm curious if any is you have experience with these devices? I leaned what I can but they make a bunch of different styles of valve. The large lines are cold and hot mains with smaller bypasses, I assuming that each line has multiple valves for redundancy? Pretty interesting stuff, thought you may find it interesting.

Cla-Val makes a wide variety of control valves. They are fun to work on, but can also cause you to regret your career choice in a hurry.

Usually the redundancy is in case of failure or to reduce wear on the valve. For example, first valve reduces from 150psi to 100psi and second valve reduces from 100psi to below 80psi.

One of the small pilot prv valves had failed, and water was spraying out of the relief port on the bell. They still had water to the zone via the by bypass, so they were able to wait. They sent one of our guys back out to replace the entire larger valve assembly, I guess this building is already suing the builders for some reason, so they are to afraid to actually repair anything. It's also interesting that the 7 floor zone was able to function just fine off of the 1 1/4" bypass. I guess a lot of these high rise buildings are mainly empty.
