Hi All!

I switched my house from oil to gas last month to help make the system more efficient. Keep in mind I have steam radiators, so I know the improvement was minimal. My boiler is in good shape so it doesn’t need replacing and I just installed a new burner. I just received the bill for my first month on gas and it was $300. I have a 1,600sf two story home with one zone that I keep at 60 degrees. Also, I installed insulation in my attic and basement ceiling when I moved in. Windows are energy rated, but the extent of the wall insulation is unknown. Not sure if the costly bill is what I should be expecting or if it’s due to something not working properly. I’ve never done anything to “maintain” the radiators or boiler, so maybe there’s something I’m unknowingly not doing that’s causing the system to run more inefficiently? Any advise is greatly appreciated & thank you in advance!

Well clearly something is wrong, I would call a different Licensed HVAC tech/plumber to check it out. You can call your local or state government licensing body to verify the person/company you are hiring is actually licensed.

You won't get any other advice here because this site is for professionals only.

She looks like she probably has relations with that dog.
So you went from trying to be helpful to falling for peer pressure and joining in with the guys? Fortunately, I work in the industry, so I have years of experience with guys like you. However, my work is strictly commercial, so this issue with my house is out of my typical scope. I thought maybe a forum of fine plumbers like yourself would be open to passing on some suggestions. I won’t make the mistake again of assuming a plumbers can be professional.

I am sure that if you are a "Professional Plumber" that the first thing you do when you open something is to throw away the instructions! Everyone of us do, however in this forum it is DEMANDED that you read the instructions first.
Check out the thread " New Member Introductions" and you will probably begin to understand the replies you have received.
