Then why does it have a BTU rating?
I can’t answer your question definitely, but I believe it’s rated off BTU for sizing purposes Of the valve.

The “ stick “ on a typical T&P valve is your thermostat. Tankless pressure relief valves are missing the thermostat. The hole is there, but it’s not installed.

I never thought about that. It's the wax inside the stick that forces the valve open.
