I thought it was a neat idea. SHe needed help and she found it by not scamming others.

I'm sure everyone here has charity stories where we have fixed plumbing for free or for pennies. I have a big heart for people who are genuinely in need.

I use my company Facebook page to share funny pics and random thoughts. It is very successful for me. I will post the link if anyone is interested.
I might sound like the biggest :censored: in the world after this, but here goes.
1. I know of several elderly people who can more than afford it, but would let this happen just to pinch pennies.
2. Where the :censored: are her family and friends, and why weren't they helping?
3. I am tired of being asked for my money, from all the :censored: different charities.
4. Was it professionally installed?
etc... I could go on for awhile with this.
I think we should all do our part to help support those in need in this country, and give time and possibly money if you can afford it, but for pete's sake when will it end? To top off my whole post.
Who really gives a $hiot!!!

I know...I know

I had to run with this one. It shot across my news feed on facebook and since we all are plumbers charging 100's of dollars just to talk to others about the profession,

thought I'd break the monotony a little. ;)

Now all the elderly can go to facebook, get free plumbing work.
Good plug for facebook and Ray Esser & Sons.
I've seen this situation many times and there has been the rare time when the person really had no option but to live with the situation. MOST times, family, friends or even social assistance programs will help lesson the burden. But it's not so rare to find people that would just live without hot water because they have no other choice.
I've put in toilets, sump pumps, replaced a water heater element, etc over the years after discovering that these people simply did not have the means to have it done for them. That's after checking extensively too. I'd never do it on a lark and I've probably heard the "oh woe is me" chant a hundred times more than the charity work I've actually done. I reckon that over the past 25 yrs the cost hasn't gone over $500 or $600 dollars, plus my time. (If you figured my labour into it you could prolly add a zero or two, tho.)

But the first course of "charity work" is to check out the persons situation as best you can. That is time spent (which costs you) and most times you'll find a daughter or nephew or someone that'll take care of these things.

Facebook water heater replacements? Cool idea but could get lame real quick.
