So I'm working on the company policy/procedures manual for my boss and I'm almost done but I'm curious about your perception on what policies you have to have in a Plumbing companies policy manual? I have some things about drugs/alcohol, job site management, purchase orders/purchasing things, employee hours/pay periods, etc., some safety stuff although a seperate policy on that will be made later. etc.

Gonna have to have a meeting in the next week with some of the supervisors to hammer out/edit it.

Sexual harassment on the job, hetro and otherwise. I had to write that in last year when we had a gay plumber and he was non-stop with the ****-erotic joking. At first, I thought it was his idea of job site humor, but it wasn't. Now, none of it is allowed, period.

Under-aged children have to be escorted by a parent or guardian.

Smoking. No smoking on shop time, on shop property, on job sites.

The smoking thing is a little harsh. The cars driving down the road by the office, shop, building puts out way more toxins then a couple of cigs do. Just be respectful and put your butts in the trash. Don't throw them on the ground. Some innocent bird may use that butt for a load baring component of his/her nest.

Our cig taxes in Florida have gone up 58 %. Why don't they tax something else like martini's. The known drink that lawmakers order while sitting in our local bars and looking for hoes when the legislature is in session. Leave my cigs alone. Tax something else like martini's, ( not beer lol ) or something like womens shoes, no, don't do that either. I will think of something soon. Will get back to ya.
Btw, I don't smoke in someones home, or a trim out. I have never burned anyones property from a cig. Why can't we smoke if we pick up our butts and dispose of them properly, even if we don't take lunch. You can discount my smoking time from my lunch. I ain't hurting a soul. :censored:

Where I live there is a lot of movement to almost outlaw smoking, and it's really becoming taboo.

That no smoking is a bunch of crap!!! as long as you don't smoke in a customers house or throw butts in there yards I don't see anything wrong with it. I am 55 yrs old and I will be damn if I am going to hide in a corner to smoke a cigarette like I did when I was a kid. Its free country. They don't like the smell of my smoke well I don't like the smell of thier crap but I still work in it. Hell they complain about the smell of the glue and primer or the smell of the flux. Does that mean we have to start dry fitting everything. My ex boss ( thank God he is my ex boss too) would lecture me about smoking in front of the customer while leaning against my truck on a public street while the customer is on the porch smoking one cigarette after another. I respect the customers and thier property and they should respect my right to smoke as long as it is still legal to do so. But I am trying to quit anyway so whatever. The only time I will smoke is when my ex boss is around lol.

And when you do stop for good, you'll see the damage smoking does to you and everything around you. I had lots of nasty habits, but smoking was the worse. I quit over 10 years ago and never looked back.

Besides, cigarettes cost way too much now....couldn't/wouldn't afford them.

Not sure of your states hiring and firing laws. But make sure to think of EVERYTHING you can about employee practices and rules. Sometimes it can get a little sticky on the "it wasnt in the manual" part. Our state is pretty lax on it, but i have heard others are strict.
