Today had a call for a failed relief valve making the basement floor wet.

Found a water logged ST-12. This was installed about 10" from the top of the heater. The 3/4 m connection was screwed into a 3/4c x 3/4c x 3/4 FIP Tee. Why the cast fitting did not break or the tank break off baffels me. No support what so ever! The tank was 100% full and static pressure was 95 PSI.

I put in a new tank owner has to approve a PRV.

Anyway here is the BRA -- even has a strap.

"Use only with potable water system. Do not operate in a
setting with freezing temperatures or where the temperature
can exceed 200°F and do not exceed the maximum working pressure specified for

this Product in the Manual. Mount vertically only."

I like your "bra" support  i'll admit i've mounted those tanks horizontally before... ooops

WOW your reading a different book than I am.

Mounting Position
One benefit inherent in the Therm-X-Trol
® is the ability to
mount the tank in any position. Due to the use of a heavy
butyl/EPDMdiaphragm or butyl bladder, the Therm-X-Trol
® can
be mounted in an arrangement that best suits the installation
space.
This Technical Bulletin is intended to provide general information
for use in assessing the propriety of the Therm-X-Trol
® for your
residential hot water application. It is not an installation and/or
operation manual. The detailed steps for proper installation and
operation of the Therm-X-Trol
® are published in the AMTROL
Product Installation Manual for this product. Proper installation
and operation of the Therm-X-Trol
® requires, among other things,
consideration of local building ordinances and plumbing codes,
appropriate situation and configuration of the unit, and compliance
with all pre-installation requirements and post-installation

operation and maintenance procedures.

in regard to the post Bra for a therm tank

Their reply ...

Subject: RE: ST Series Therm X trol questions

Dear Bill Parr
First of all thank you for your feed back. The ST-5 and ST-12 can be mounted in any direction, the design of the tank will allow it to function normally. If the tank is mounted in any other direction than hanging off the pipe, I would recommend supporting the tank just in case it ever filled with water, a tank filled with water could put pressure on the piping system.

It's called ingenuity. What you have there is made specifically for these tanks. In a pinch, a good plumber will use his or her sense of imagination and come up with something that not only works great, but looks cool too.
