Big Blue sells AO Smith and Homie Orange sells Rheem.

Which basic 40/50 gas is better and why ?

Supply house water heaters are not the topic.

Power company here and the gas company will give you a water heater if you switch to their form of energy. Sometimes it’s advertised but other times it’s not, you have to ask. .

I had a guy that had both gas and electric connections and everytime his heater went bad he would just switch 🤣

I just had a guy come pick up about 8 water heaters and a few old bikes and scooters. All kinds of other metal also. Tent frame, dishwasher, steam generator…..

Anyway, I’m glad to be rid of the junk. I try to keep my place fairly neat even though it’s behind a fence.

The guy was really grateful. He said this was going to make his kids night tonight with fireworks and a cookout they’re going to use the money they get off the scrap.

One man’s junk is another man’s treasure. Very true.

Mofo probably going to buy an 8-ball of meth…….you know how addicts try to lie and make you think they’re good people. 🤣🤡.

I never turned my back breh….

We had a junk hauler that gave everybody at the shop the sad story. Him and his wife living in their truck and no food to eat. They
go to all the churches for their meals. We all pitched in for them.. Then one of guys had a call at the town gaming place where you pay
to spin the one armed bandit and maybe win a few dollars. I don't have to tell you the man and wife that he saw playing in there with
the money donated to him. Never again.

I just had the same exact thing happen. Orig. call 'no hot water.'
I showed up and saw a 2 year old W/H so I re-lit the pilot light. Older couple in a 55+ community for older folks. They could not re-light. I thought that it was a fluke that it went out.

About a week later, same customer calls. No hot water. So I go out and check the incoming gas pressure. It was 9" W.C. Then I light the pilot light, but it won't stay lit. So obviously I think, 'oh it's a bad thermocouple.' Just to be sure {because this W/H is under 3 years old. And thermocouples last for years. So I am thinking that how can a new thermocouple be bad this soon? } I use my multi-meter and I am getting a reading of 21 mv.

So now I am really confused because between 10-30 mv is a good reading for a thermocouple. Then after scratching my head for a little while I decide to light the pilot light again, but I can't get the piezo striker to make a spark!

So I call Rheem technical support. I tell them what's going on. They say it's a bad gas control valve.

LIke was posted earlier, good for us licensed plumbers but bad for the consumer who will get a new gas control valve free of charge from Rheem, but has to pay me to replace.

By the way, Rheem charged my customer $30 for faster Fed-X delivery....LOL.
The customer could have saved $30 and let Rheem ship it Fed-X ground delivery, but that would take a few days longer.

And I called Rheem today, Saturday and they were closed. So I have to wait until Monday to order the customer's gas control.

What a low quality product. Both defective gas controls were in the same neighborhood, about {2} blocks away from each other....LOL.

That whole neighborhood will probably start calling soon.

Do you have a better pic of the water heater ? Maybe one showing the install conditions and the control ?

Have you checked that the water heater is in warranty ? The date doesn’t matter unless its over 6 yrs old. The existing heater may be a warrranty replacement and only had the remainder of the original heaters warranty.

I’d type the serial number into Rheems system and check.

I certainly don’t go by what the customer says. They’re wrong more than they are right unless they have a receipt in hand.

That doesn’t tell if that unit was supplied fas a warranty replacement. You don’t get the whole 6 year warranty, you get the remainder of the original water heaters warranty.

for example.

I buy a Rheem 6yr heater and it leaks after 3 years.
The new heater I get under warranty only has 3 more years left on the warranty. You don’t get another 6 year warranty with the new water heater.

So if you look at the date on the heater it looks like it’s in warranty but it could be expired.

That serial number just gives me an idea of how old it is. If it shows warranty then I would ask the customer if it was ever replaced and then I call the supply house
to verifiy if it is still under warranty or not. If it shows out of warranty on the tank then I tell them they need to buy a new tank or put money into an old tank.
