When my truck is a mess it slows me way down and costs me a lot of time, I come from the school of thought that the job is done when the tools are put away, it only takes me 2-3 extra minutes on a job to put the tools and parts back where they go vs 10-15 hunting for them on the next job. Jist my experience.
I threw out 2 old sump pumps today around 1 pm and a bunch of boxes at the office dumpster....
if you are working out of a box truck it is really no big deal how much stuff you are hauling around
the box trucks are way more efficient than other rides.....

but if you are working out of a common van things can get real ugly fast.....
nothing is more fun than tunneling your way into your van over an old water heater
trying to find a special part and kneeling down full weight on a sheet metal screw....... o_O 馃槅

I work out of a pick up truck, super organized, every bit of space is maxed out so there is no room for mess or garbage(other then in our garbage bucket). My apprentice knows as part of cleaning up and finishing each call/job, all tools, materials, bits/pieces etc get put away. No excuses.

Same here. I have two garbage buckets and a scrap bucket. everything has it's place and there are spots reserved for materials. I can rearrange and fit several fixtures in boxes, or a 60gal water heater, or some dehumidifiers, a softener/brine tank. If I had extra space there's a ton of stuff I would add to my van, but that's just wants not needs. Been working like this for years, almost never call back for parts delivery and when I do it's usually abs drain fittings/pipe because I only carry pvc.

I鈥檝e posted this a few times on here and this is how I am. If I put everything on the shelves I won鈥檛 know where anything is. View attachment 132827
I agree with that sentiment, but a pile of crap in the middle of the floor is still inefficient, and looks terrible to the customer. I know, we all have pot bellies, plumber's crack, and dirty hands anyway........just me? hahaha

Thankfully we get the extra long t shirts, no exposed plumber's cracks here!

We have the same ridgid mini camera. Do you use it often?
I have one mostly to look for leaks but I rarely use it, to the point it just sits in my shop.
I find when using the camera for leaks there ALWAYS insulation, wood, duct-work or something else in the way and it鈥檚 just ends up easier and faster to cut open walls/ceilings..

In my humble opinion, you waste a lot of money with a messy, dis-organized truck.
#1: you can't find what you need in the way of parts, so you could wind up traveling to a supply house to purchase a part that is already on your truck, and
#2 you can't find a tool that you need so you could wind up traveling to a supply house to purchase a tool that is already on your truck.

I worked for a man years ago that always was purchasing tape measures because his current one always either could not be found in all the junk or the tape broke when he did find it because all the junk broke his tape measures.

Yeah, exactly! I know where all of my parts are and when I tell them we need to come back it's only because I don't feel like digging for that part! Not because I don't know where it is darn it! Hahaha.
