Never heard of the test. But one time I did try and copy a rooter company who used a tennis ball on the end of there camera to elevate it out of water. ( we had the spacers but sometimes they get stuck in 90's)

We got the camera stuck and eventually the ball came off and went down the drain.
last time I tried that trick
