To original poster.....Pipe it out in copper and brass all the way to the hub drain. PVC is a no-no for boiling hot liquids.

Plastic will only de-form and contort and they will be calling you back.

I think his main issue was trying to get a PVC female adapter on a regular 1-1/2" basket strainer outlet, which does not work. You might get 1 or two threads on it but that's it. PVC or Copper, it just doesn't work, or not for very long. Ripped out many of them through the years.

Depends on the brand. The Cast brass strainer baskets usually work well with female adapters. Sometimes a cleanout threads on better.

If you get the 2" ones with the popup the female adapters usually screw on. Don't get me wrong, I've had to go on callbacks where our newcon guys have threaded them and then they crack a few months later. When they fit well it is worth doing.

I use the T&S that has both the 2” mip and the 1.5” fip thread outlet.
I have enough trouble getting most to use a genuine T&S faucet instead of a Krowne or some other garbage. I think they'd have me committed if I told someone to order a good drain fitting. Most commercial sinks around here end up with standard basket strainers. When I do the ordering I can get the Kohler cast brass strainers and know they will work. Any twist pop-up drain would be special order and it wouldn't get past the Gestapo. Sometimes the WB Deluxe S.S. strainers work, we keep those at the shop.

B&K makes them too. They are slightly cheaper than a t&s. I wouldn’t be sticking my hands in 2 ft of murky water to pull a strainer out. My luck there’d be a lot of sharp pointy stuff sticking up slicing the old fingahs.
