Default Hot/ cold tub

The building is 50ish years old and the unit is on the third(top) floor. While running the tub it flips back and forth to hot/ cold. It seems to be only the tub. I am pretty sure its a cross connection,is it at the tub or somewhere else in the building? Its a 2 handle diverter.

Thanks for the input.

Maybe a faulty single handle faucet with a bad cartridge in the same unit or related service line? Rare, but I’ve seen it.

There is a wrong term being used in this post ...
Problem is not a cross connection. But a cross-over problem. Cross connection is the mixing of pure water with impure items, sewerage or somthing else.

Back to the problem check for a stuck washmachine valve. A cross at outside H&C faucets with no checks installed. Old Moen cartridges, wrong barrels installed in T&S faucets {like a pre-rinse faucet with a sprayer} and many others.

Good call Mr. Bill as usual

CROSS CONNECTION.*Any physical connection or arrangement between two otherwise separate piping systems, one of which contains potable water and the other either water of unknown or questionable safety or steam, gas or chemical, whereby there exists the possibility for flow from one system to the other, with the direction of flow depending on the pressure differential between the two systems.
