Somtimes i feel people think we are majicians.
Add a bathroom to a home and have the bathroom group run through these joist 15' long run full of duct work. It took me all day just to get the drainage done. What a pain in the butt.
Wasnt willing to flip the vanity an toilet

I looked at a job the other day to move a w/c to the other side of the Bathroom, the client said “NO” to a bulkhead due to the crown mounding in the living room(Which I get), the GC told me just to notch the joists.
I got out of there fast.

First third middle third.

Only make holes in the first third of the board longways(the ends), in the middle third of the board shortways.

That's the rule the carpenters we work with follow for how we can run pipe through standard floor joists. When we can't keep it that simple they have to beef up the boards or do something special.

I wasn’t gunna go near this one, the home was 80-100 years old, the joists were all chewed up, cut, warped, and patched up...
