Default People who cancel an appointment

I've had many people who book an appointment several days in advance for a clogged drain and at the last minute they call to cancel. I think they reserve a spot while trying to get someone else cheaper or faster. This screws me up because I could of booked someone for a repair. People who book for a repair usually don't back out.

I think I'm going to charge a non refundable 100$ E-transfer deposit for those who book a clogged drain days in advance.

With the way you describe how the area of Canada you are in is, I would be surprised if they allow that.

Plus, I bet if people do pay that, and it ends up costing more just for the unclogging or that you have to do more work to fix an issue, they'll expect that cost to already be covered with that deposit. I mean you do deal with a bunch of idiots quite often.

Cancellation = another chance to get paperwork caught up or clean the truck.

True they might spin it anyway they want. I am allowed to ask for a non refundable deposit, I'd only have to record it so it would be bullet proof.

For Alan I'm at a point recently where I have a little more jobs and if people can't have a specific day they hire someone else. If I put someone too far on the calendar they drop it.

Right now he has too many chances to do paperwork and clean the van and not enough money coming in.

We do a 200$ hold on the credit card for new customers and those who give issues with paying their bills.

That's a way to say it by not putting a specific date and if I have a gap I'll call them. I know they'll be calling around though.

It's the cost of doing business, no matter what service industry you are in. It has happened since the concept of a service business has begun, and no one yet has found a workable solution. It is going to happen no matter what. The only option is, if it happens too often to you, you need to reexamine your policies and see what it is that you do or do not do that contributes to it.

Dentists charge 50$-200$ if you cancel within 48 hours and my family doctor boots you off permanently if you miss twice. It took me 8 years on the waiting list to get one, just in time too!

Other professionals charge too.
