Default Freight costs ...

I am finding this to be a super frustrating aspect of dealing with my main supplier. I dont mind the freight costs. Especially when I need to special order something that they dont have in stock.

My biggest issue is that they wont quote me a freight cost. I wouldnt even mind the option of : "
We cant quote the freight but we are doing an elkay order in 6 weeks and they will cover the freight on that order if you can wait."

So I get a random charge on my account for freight and it is frustrating trying to explain and pass it on to the customer.

I guess I'm just venting.

No man... they really should be giving you a cost if they have to order it in.. like how are you suppose to quote the job if you dont what the part or whatever is going to be in terms of total cost...

Like you cant swallow the freight cost on an item or even let it cut into your profits... our supply doesnt charge freight unless its something huge... they just tell us what its goinf to be final cost even if its special order that way we know whatour cost is before ordering...

I usually quote everything over 350... that way they know what its going to be before anything and we know what were going to make on the job aswell..

There should never be a random charge on an account... if your a regular customer you should complain you know our clients would

Not telling you the shipping cost is pretty freaking stupid. Maybe it's time to shop online.

I've stopped going to Wolseley/Ferguson. Complete BS all the time and when I complained they shut up and scurry like rats.

I found a supply house not too far away, half prices on most things!!! They don't have all service parts but they are on the road to cash in my paychecks.

This particular job that is bothering me right now happens to be for a friend that works at one of the county funded programs in town and they want to swap their regular drinking fountain out for one that has a bottle filler on it as well.

I had no problem telling her that they would not quote me freight, so please do some shopping around and when you find a better price, let me know because I want to go back to them and tell them that she bought one somewhere else I couldn't even compete with any pricing without having a freight cost.

It doesn't seem that difficult.

you need to find a new supply house to deal with...I dont ever remember having to pay freight for something ordered in any supply house by me, they get stuff trucked in all the time and I guess its just part of the price...

Her price + shipping is less than what I could give it away for even if I eat freight.

I don't know what these guys are doing, but some of their pricing isn't even wholesale.

Does your supply house ship material out to your job{s} as part of their service at no extra charge? Mine does. I get material delivered all the time.

But I do remember a few years back when I wanted to order some non-stocked item, they added a freight charge.

Yeah they will drop it to a job for free if I need it, usually just delivered to my house. Last year I had them drop a 2500 gallon storage tank at a customer's house so I didn't have to try and find a way to haul it there myself and they didn't charge me for it as it wasn't really out of their way more than about 2 minutes.

Just to clarify this freight charge is the cost for them to get the item to their warehouse. Either hide the freight cost in the price of the item or tell me what it is up front.
