You hit the nail on the spot. "For the most part, people donít care about plumbers, until they need one." That's especially true when they call and complain it's expensive or they try to get you to tell them how to fix it themselves.

Name recognition is true but with an ultra hefty price tag and it doesn't mean you will receive calls. The trick is to have your ad where people are searching for that service. For me there's only 2 places. Goo is #1

Weekend newspaper with a colored logo was a bust = 1 job
Door hangers = 1 job = 0.5%

I just learned people in my area the ones who use the internet the most at 95%. Even the unemployment office got rid most of their agents and the only way to fill out the form is online in front of row of computers.

That's why a half page ad in the phone book is the best option. Everyone(around here) gets one in the mailbox for free. Full page they ignore it and go to the next page, half page ad and smaller they stay on that page to look at other listings as well and keep seeing yours in the peripheral vision.

All of these lead companies are a pain in the butt. That said it is not worth getting angry at them. The only one that loses is you. Instead, what we do at Aces Four is measure and manage everything. And we use a marketing partner to control it. Home Advisor are slime balls but if I can get closed business for a price that makes sense (including the amount I spend to manage it) then I am willing to use it. Don't like many of these guys but then again I don't like 100% of customers (although I do like 99% of them!).

Maybe if you put your add on the back page of the book for 5 grand a month you might get some calls.... but if you are paying for a half page under plumbers for 600 a month you are gonna get boned good...

we got out about 5 years ago and it has not made any difference to us..

the absolute 100% best advertsieing is still the STICKERS you plaster in every home ...

I think I have mentioned this self evident truth before
