Default Hello from Chicago!

I'm a first year apprentice(pretty much just started) from Chicago, I guess my area of expertise is fire-caulking and cutting cast iron lol. My contractor mostly does new construction and that's what I'm currently doing. I'm hoping to learn more and more from here and the job site.

This one is from me : Write more than one or two lines, elaborate. Are you proud of your trade? Show it! Talk about the jobs you've done, the path you took to get where you're at as a trades person, the amount of time spent in plumbing school(s) or years before you were eligible to take the journeyman exam etc.

What made you decide to go in the trade?

I've only been in one job, its a smaller job, about 4 units per floor, expensive condos. I was a a laborer for 2 months until I got into the union, still only a first year. I have family who are plumbers at my current contractor.

That's the life of a gopher(gofor this gofor that). I was a specialist as "hold the ladder while I'm installing this furnace in the air". Or go thread me some pipe. Breaking concrete was also a plumbing specialty then 2nd-3rd-4th year drill millions of shots for hangers, so much so that I have carpel tunnel.

Welcome to the hard life of a pipe fitter/plumber.

Welcome. Don't be afraid to ask questions or to jump in and give us your 2 cents in a discussion. I'll teach you a lesson in 2 things, how you can learn from this forum and how even when people here are harshly critiquing your work they still mean well and try to help you get better. I'll be posting a couple pictures of some work I did (around here that takes b+lls)
