after these, then all the other areas are just ----dog eat dog

This fellow supposedly has been doing the work for 11 years and does not have any clue as to what kind of money they make or what to bid a home for....
If his dad died tomorrow and he landed in charge of the business , then he would be way up shi/ creek without any idea what to do...

New construction --its all smoke and mirrors and every house is different with labor and materials and difficulty involved.....

I am sure that somewhere out their someone has devised a majic formula to figure out or ballpark the amount of fittings and labor time per bathroom and then hope that it falls into the price range the evil builder wants to pay for the work.... somewhere .....

so whatever works for you, works just great for me too

ok ill agree with you on the service work for the reasons you have given, but if you establish good relationships with a few contractors that do new work, dormers, extensions and renovations and do their plumbing work, 99.9% of the time you get that work with no fight over the price and no smoke and mirrors or dog and pony show..
I will say it takes alot of time and effort to weed out the jerkoffs and get a good few contractors, but in the end it is worth it...
if I had 10 bucks for all the contractors that promised me the world if I did cheap work I wouldnt have to work..LOL
plumbers will find their nitch or nitches that they feel more comfortable doing and they should make some good money doing it...
all is good if your working and making money and dont feel the need to bang your head against the wall each day...

Those good relationships you are talking about are far and few in-between...

I normally turn down all commercial bids I get every day on my computer and the same with new construction...

What I have found is you have to dance with all of them and eventually you figure out that 8 out of 10 of them are pond skum who are picking your back pocket ......this is not cost effective.

You really cant afford to do the "Tennessee waltz" with too many people before you totally start to lose your ass trying to find those special contractors....

I came up with this formula a long time ago and I have stuck to it....
If you just say NO THANK YOU to every builder and contractor that wants you to do work for them , it will probably be the right decision 8 out of 10 times.... that is pretty good odds...

so if you figure if they gave you those odds in Vegas ----and those odds are pretty damn good..... you are gonna win 8 out of 10 times... without having to bust your ass danceing with them.....

I in stalled 2 water heaters today , one for 1200 and another for 1400 and did a small call for $175.... I took off this morning at 9.30 and was home by 3.30

and I only had to dance with the water heaters and I did not have to brown nose or do any special favors for a builder today...

I do a short dance and thats all it takes to see the scummers out there.....in the beginning you dance around to find your way...now im more at the end, ill kick them in the shins..lol..but I have already developed all the relationships I need with contractors...
anyone starting out needs to find out for themselves what route togo, so to listen to anyone and only go that route is NOT good business...
I watched the people I worked for( old bosses) and saw how they ran their business and took alittle from all of them and developed what worked for me...
so I wont tell anyone any one way is the best..whats good for me may be bad for you and whats good for you may not work for me..the best advice I tell people is look at the successful businesses and see how they do things along with how the failing businesses do things..then work out your own formula of what kind of work you can make GOOD money at..just making enough is not good, you want to make alot of $$$$$, thats why your in business and you need compensation for your time and troubles that go far beyond just the hours you actually goto work...
skoronesa and Tango like this.

Yes..The short dance is the best one to do...

I just say NO...I also dont waste my time working up estimates for any of them to compare to the other dozen that they already have.....

It makes me wonder
sometimes if the way that dogs meet each other it a better way to judge these skumbags...?? ... Like a dog ---just a quick shiff of their butt-holes and you know all you need to know ---is they freind or foe..??.

I dont even do estimates for the contractors if after I ask a few questions and listen to their sad story of what happened to the last plumber, I just tell them thanxs but not interested..I wont waste anymore time than a first meet to see what they need...its like lotto..you have to be in it to win it...usually on the phone when they first call I can weed out 80% of the scammers and just 1 meeting weeds out the rest...
but I have to say there are many good loyal contractors that make the dance worth it...
hey how many scumbag plumbing companies are out there?? that contractors and homeowners have to put up with?? LOTS of them..so you have to play on a level playing field for both sides...and I will say again in the long run its worth the investment to find the good ones..

I think you are right about the skumbag plumbers out there right now because people are begging me for estimates for jobs that I guess they simply cannot find decent people to do the work....

Today i got 4 calls from different contractors around town , and I have another 3 or more on my e-mail wanting me to bid jobs..

2 of them have gutted some big barns in the war zone parts of town and want to flip them for big money to some dumbass snowflake who wants to live in the ghetto so they can absolve themselves of all their white guilt.... (its the norm these days)

Then I get 2 others who are commercial contractors looking for anyone who might take on a commercial job for them.......

I have no desire to gear up and get involved with any of them..... I have considered bidding on the barns and making the estimate double or more just to see what happens.........

My luck would be to bid the job 3 times higher and they will say great...
then I will have to really consider doing the work..

That would be funny, if it weren't true. I just read where either your state or Illinois recently made it the law that all public schools are now required to teach LBGQT issues. When does the insanity end?

with the impending civil war...its coming for sure..Trump has just slowed it down a little, but the left thinks anifta is going to be their muscle against a 100 million armed citizens..it will be a short war and the conservatives will win..

I've seen 2 posts here about pricing that tie together, one is prices vary around the country and the 2nd is $1200 - $1400 water heaters. In our area we are $1900 +/- for a 50 gal gas heater.
