Default Sometimes silicone is the only way out of troubles

I found this pretty mess a few days ago .....

It .turns out the cast iron double wye was rotted away at the arm and the handy man had to rig up a 3 inch fernco fitting over the whole hub and then insert the pvc drain into the socket as far as possible then slilcone the crap out of the socket inside and out.......r

this catches the kitchen drain line..and is hugging the ceiling in a nasty old hole that I have no desire to fool with any time soon....

he asked me what I thought of it as it has been working fine for 2 years...
It would be a matter of cutting out a 4 inch cast wye and basically tearing out half the plumbing system to fix correctly

I quoted him 1500 minimum

I also told him that it looked great from my house and if it starts leaking to throw some more silicone on it.......

I love when you see these repairs.
I opened a wall the other day to find someone used big screws and silicone to plug leaks in a cast iron stack.

You know that its not pretty but that it do work....
it might not be pretty but if you can seal it up and it stays dry till it all sets up, it will probably hold until the rest of the cast iron pipe rots away around it...

Silicone is used to make water tight seals in boats so it does have some value if applied generously to the joint

I hope to be retired before having to cut that mess out

Might hold the flow until they have a backup.

Yes if it starts dripping some day all they got to do is put a huge drum
under the leak and just remember to empty it every month or two....

Yep, It's the second time I get someone wanting me to give them a complete new kitchen or bathroom because I charged 1 hour to fix something. They say I have to guarantee it so they are entitled to a complete reno.

All houses that look run down from now on I'm getting the hell out. Problem people. The first link here on my second visit the woman said she was getting a custom kitchen done. I saw the new counter slab (A value of 99$) but no way I think they were changing the rotted cabinets.

These are the 2 pshycos :

You know that it is wise to take pictures of your work especially if it is in a hell hole or the people seem to be totally crazy.... perhaps even a recorded video that you can up load to google ......

I turned my video camera on last month and filmed a customer I had to go to because she made threats towards me....about some crazy looney stuff that she claimed happenned when we installed a water heater for her a few months back in time......

I put the phone in my front pocket so I could record what when on cause I was sure she was nuts......

. it turned out to be a little old lady who is in the early stages of dementia.. and I asked her if she had any kids in town to look after her and she knew I was wondering about her sanity...... I looked over her house and went down into the basement and she was babbling about her electrical system and somehow the gas water heater was messing it up...... I politely told her that she was nuts and it could not happen.............. Then she told me I was the 4 plumber she has had out to look at this....
I just politely got the hell out of the house..... no charge....

I still have the video cause for all I know she could claim that anything transpired between us next month.......

I did start looking for a fraction of a second for a body cam. Steve Lav is already doing it, not a body cam but recording most of his work. He does it for 2 reasons, one of them to post and the other to protect himself when someone blames him for something he didn't even work on. He said that a few times during his episodes.

I talked to the lawyer yesterday and I can't be charged if I go to someone's house and decide to leave before they sign the work order. I always ask them to show me what needs to be done before I have them sign the work order. So the next person who starts to complain when I come in, the house looks old or run down or the person looks at me funny I'm out of there. She told me if you start working you can't quit unless they die, go bankrupt or something major. Even if they try to extort me, insult me in the process I'm still obligated to finish.
