Would you tolerate a coworker or supervisor smokin dope around you at work. ( im sober ) so i find it pretty disprespectfull. What would you do ? Keep in mind this person might not giva **** so being honest with them might not go anywhere

Nope.

My co-worker was hard of hearing. I was trying to help him fish a piece of pex through some effed up hole in a mobile home because he was pushing up against the bottom of the cabinet and on the verge of destroying it. I felt him pull back and then immediately a searing pain in my finger as he had it pinned between the pipe and the cabinet. I started yelling at him to pull back, and he couldn't hear a thing.

After that we didn't go on jobs together and he had to get hearing aids.

That was my line. Drugs absolutely would be a no go. I even find it really disrespectful when people are smoking tobacco around me.

That said i've noticed GC's smoking weed at jobsites, but I just steer clear of them.

The last time I left a job due to safety issues was a dude doing a huge remodel of his house had some scab working on it and the dude moved in and was camping in there with his wife and two young kids. I got there to go to work and there were crab cookers and toys everywhere. Got back in the truck and left, never even pulled a tool out.

Zero tolerance. Too much liability at hand, and the hours they are on your job/driving company vehicles they are the face of the company. Even as much as smoking cigs in a company vehicle to me that's a no, none of my vehicles have ever been smoked in. But on someone's own time they can do as they please, I have many friends who toke up, I never have(was never interested in drugs) but I honestly don't care what guys do.
Honestly the same goes with drinking on the job. Of course the exception is the older guy who has one cracked for you at the end of the day. Those can slide because I've always enjoyed hearing the old fellers' stories.

The problem is most employees think its a perk or a benefit if their employer does not do drug tests on them.... so it gradually gets worse and worse.... If I were to here again I would put the drug test kit hanging right on the wall where they could see it every morning....

I worked for a company that had some booze hounds working for them. On 2 occasions one of the booze hounds dropped a 24 inch rigid pipe wrench righ t on me and I had to avoid it as it smashed into the ground from 10 feet up...

Another time the dumbass was supposed to be securing the bottom of a ladder while I was up 20 feet attempting to thread some gas pipe together
he walked away to take a piss and left me up there thinking someone had my back....

these guys are LOSERS and could care less about injuring you...and when you break your skull ---because of them, they are just gonna stand there scratching their ball sack and look stupid....
It twernt my fault you got in the way of my mistake.....

Workmans comp does not pay squat and these morons will still be working while you are laid up for 6 months..

You should go look for another job cause the place you work is
not gonna take very good care of you when or if you get injured....
any legit company should drug test for alcohol and drugs...

It's a safety issue and an issue of public image and reputation.

I must admit I'm not into drama and I believe he should be old enough to be aware of such things already yet clearly does not care so confronting him would be no use.

I don't care what others do with there life's.

I can't tell what I would do when I don't know every little detail and I'm not involved in it.

I can say that I would not like it if it is a blatant safety hasard. I would not like it if he was disrespectful and did it near me after having hinted that I don't like it. I also would not like it if I felt that it impacted our image/reputation as a company because that could eventually cost us customers and that could lead to layoff and I'm not losing my job because someone else gave us a bad reputation.

I have an apprentice who I know smokes(cannibis) and he knows I’m fine with that -but he also knows he’s not to smoke before/during work...
I’ll smoke a bit once in a while and have a few drinks on weekends

but NEVER on work days before/during work.

I think it depends on the worker and the trust you have with them.
My apprentice knows my feelings/regulations on the subject and respects them, in turn I respect the fact that he can do what he wants on his own time as long as it doesn’t effect his work proformance.

My current and last Master both have this policy. It bit my last Master loosing a good size account. That said, when he took himself out of the field, other than estimates and what not, he’d usually sit on the couch playing video games and smoke dope between phone calls. I remember one day I had to swing by his house for something... not sure but I think I got a contact buzz. He had an estimate to do later that afternoon.

Are YOU high or is english your third language? judging by your posts you aren't a plumber either. You don't even have an intro.

I treat it like alcohol. Don't do it before/during work, or in my van. If your substance use puts my safety and well being at risk I will put yours at risk.

As for cigarettes I tell my helpers not to let the homeowner see. I can't stand them but would rather have them smoke in my van with the window open while we drive to the job than on the customers property.

Now, we have had to deal with some ash holes who smoke in the porta potty during the winter. Those guys have difficulties that don't seem to affect the rest of us like misplaced tools/materials, nuts they have forgotten to tighten.....

I’m getting to old to be pushed around anymore. He’s testing you. Your right, talking to him ain’t gonna do a thing. Stand up to him and let him know that crap ain’t gonna fly with you. If you start getting treated differently by the company, is it really a place you want to work? I know it’s a tough situation but just be honest with him.

Its 1 or two plumbers out of 30 id say not sure about the tin knockers or sparkies but i dont work with them.
Its a good company they've had my back through some tough situations. I think if they drug tested all the tradesmen at my company and alot of others there wouldnt be plumbers left lol.
I go out of my way to stay away from the party lifestyle outside of work due to some of my own personal past issues. Shouldnt have to show up for work and go in a van to get somthing an its a cloud of smoke, or a portjohn full of dope smoke.
But its been a rough go since i passed my exam an became a jman. Feel like i got more respect as an apprentice. And its just been 1 guy havent worked around anyone else since befour school. But i did say somthing, im not putting up with crap when i dont dish any out. Im a pretty humble guy ( in the last year 8 months) so theres no reason for attitude. But since iv spoke up its been better.

make a peace offering buy him a joint find some crazy stuff thatll get him all paranoid and need to hide in the van. then start telling him a story during lunch you think being exposed to sewage causes these little bugs to grow out of the pores of your skin, wipe a hot snickers bar on your finger and offer him a bite of your sandwitch.

I think hell stop smoking for a while
