Default Don't mess with propane

I was working on a job at a temporary camp site where we were running gas lines from propane tanks to all the trailers. One of the "journeyman" on site was lighting the appliances after the inspection from the city and he cant get the pilot to light. He decides to crack a union, bleed some air out and then tries to light the pilot. That picture is the aftermath, he didnt have a job after that lol

I may be stupid...I don't understand, what happened? Shouldn't the system have been purged before commissioning the appliances? Has that valve split? Was there an explosion?

What am I looking at? Was the journeyman fired for not installing a union before the gas cock? Why couldn't he get the appliance lit? What is the camp used for?

He didnt properly purge the line before he tried to light the pilot. When he cracked the union at the appliance he let some propane out which got into the return of the furnace. When he did light the pilot it caused a small explosion at the furnace and broke a few fittings apart. The camp was used for temporary housing for workers after the floods in High River.

Damn, that's a little more than purging the air out. I guess he waited until he could smell it really strong.

JayAre, I work for a camp company as well and some of the stuff I see is scary. Especially with propane when we are sending out a "service tech" to trouble shoot something.

if that is what happen he's got more trouble than just a broken valve.
