There have been many studies done that prove playing video games will help with coordination, problem solving, brain function and memory.
Of course everything in moderation. I made sure my kids spend at least 3 times as much time playing outside as they do in front of a screen.
Like you said, it's no more pointless than sitting in front of a screen watching people chase a ball, drive a car, catch a fish, cook a meal, etc. At least with video games you have to use your brain to get ahead.

Hate in all caps, wow, some strong feelings to have. Why the hate? Did you try playing a video game one time and just sucked at it so you hate them now? Honestly wondering. Like watching tv isn't mindless crap to waste hours and hours on. At least I have to use my brain to play a video game, hand eye coordination, timing, etc. Really just another form of entertainment, but interactive.
LOL..I never played them much even back as a kid, I spent most of my time doing stuff outside and building all kinds of things for projects..so sitting or standing for hours in front of a game just wasnt appealing to me..and I am NOT a sport watcher either, I could care less about football, baseball , hockey or any of the other sports people watch for hours on end...again I rather go out and do....I will watch a good movie or some tv shows that have survival or equipment on them, or how to stuff, along with some comedies and sitcoms...but most of that fake reality tv is junk or just too much made up drama....
I have fios and a smart tv with amazon prime, netflix, hulu and a few others and sometimes its just hard pressed to find something good to watch..
You cant cure stupid, only kill it..
