I've read some articles on the 6.5, it's no slouch. I just don't hunt enough to justify multiple rifles. I shoot my brother's Barrett .338 with a muzzle brake occasionally and loose interest in smaller rifles pretty quick (at least at the gun range).

EH....every year they keep coming up with the new better than the rest caliber claiming everything else doesnt work anymore..all just salesmanship to get people to buy a new gun or caliber to use..I call its all BS...
.308, 30.06 you can kill any animal in North America and if thats not big enough then wichester 300 magnum..those calibers have been around forever and have taken more game than all the new calibers put together..
the gun magazines get paid to push the new stuff as thats what they make their $$ on...I hunt with the .308 and it is a great caliber, kills anything it hits, accurate, plenty supply of cheap ammo to plink and practice with...
but if you want to spend buying a new gun and a new caliber so you have something to show off because a magazine article says you will be a great hunter if you buy that caliber..go for it...other than that its no better than all the existing proven hunting calibers out there..

How it shoots and abuses you depends a lot on the gun you pick out, how it's set up, and how hot the ammo is loaded. It's odd, I know you can hunt with 6.5creed, but all I really hear about that caliber is it's for long range target shooting. Also look into ammo availability. You may have to get into reloading.

Have you given thought to just adding a muzzle break to the more common calibers .308, 300win mag, 7mm rem mag, etc? A good designed muzzle break can make that 300win mag shoot like a .22. Well maybe not that soft of recoil. I use one of those LimbSaver recoil pads on my .270 because it is like a 6 pound rifle and it beast on your shoulder more than my buddy's 300win mag with a break. It is actually more painful to shoot than my other buddy's wood stock 30.06 bolt action that weighs substantially more.

I hunt with a ruger bolt action with a short barrel in .308, however they designed the gun, it has very comfortable recoil...no muzzle break needed and deadly accurate..topped with a leopold scope..3 x 9 ...

My goto rifle is a Browning XBolt 270. I have similar money in the scope and it's plenty of rifle.

I like to shoot turtles with my Kimber 22-250. Awesome trigger and extremely accurate. Hot summer days make for great turtle shooting. Not exactly a varmit but close enough.
