Say you're working on a faucet or replacing a section of galvanized piping on the water distribution, the darn thing keeps falling apart or still dripping or whatever. When do you replace the crap instead of keep repairing?
I've run into some faucets that have repair parts that are either very difficult to locate or, very expensive. When I run into stuff like that, I almost always recommend replacement. If it's going to cost 250 to repair it, and only 300 to replace it seems to make more sense to replace it. What do you guys do when you run into a cluster F***? When do you say enough is enough lets change this thing? |

I understand the frustration. I used to think along the lines of let me fix this 25 year old faucet, water closet, or any other plumbing fixture only to be returning in a few years to make the same repair at a higher price. I have changed my philosophy and it is determined by a few things. 1. What is the age of the product? 2. How often has this product been repaired in the past? 3. If it has been repaired what was done to it. 4. It is not my decision to make it is the client’s decision to make on a repair or replacement 5. It is my duty to inform the client that it can be repaired for x amount and replaced for x amount and the benefits to him or her on both the repair and replacement. 6. What is in the best interest of the client? |

I rarely rebuild or repair anything.
And if I do, it prolly cost more than a new faucet if I dont have the part on the truck |
