If plumbers didn't ***** to the counter guys at the supply house, I wouldn't get the lowdown from the counter guys about my competition. I don't *****, either. When asked how things are going, I say, "busy."

1. If you are really managing your employees with regular meetings and reviewing their work, then you will know the complaints before they go to the supply house. And it is human nature to want more, I don't want an employee that is an easily satisfied lamb. You'd have to be pretty blind to have disgruntled employees and not know. 2. Follow Mr. Miyagi's advice. The best way to win a fight is not be there. You can't be complained about at the supply house if your employees are on the job. 3. Many plumbers wear "overworked" stories as a badge of honor rather than intending to malign their employer. They talk a big game to their friends but they also know not every plumber has a full time well paid gig. 4. Often the companies with the worst reputations at the supply house coffee pot have a fat bottom line, large repeat customer base, and techs with fat paychecks, and job security. If I'm really doing my job the best I can, then supply house chatter is irrelevant. I've given it more attention in the last ten minutes than I have in the last ten years.
