ya i've noticed in the bigger cities they are charging about $90/hour. i'm taking a class april 8th in omaha on sales to sell myself rather than the product to help dollar productivity. that's my hardest part, is me getting over the fact that people don't want to pay me that much because i'm so young. maybe that's just a stereotype that i carry i'm not sure.

people will tend to assume that a young guy doesn't know that much and isn't worth x amount. It doesn't make it true though.

Also, If you believe the price is high the customer will read that from you and you won't make the sale. You have to believe in your pricing, so make sure you know your true costs and charge for them and stick to your guns.

Oh TM. Surely you jest. Our guys already make more than the average plumber.

We could charge more, HOWEVER, that would mean working for a different type of customer.

We work for a very specific type of customer and that keeps our headaches to a minimum. The additional money is not worth the additional headaches of working for 'high maintenance' customers. I need to be able to sleep at night. And, I sleep like a baby every night.

We are slightly above the going rate and our customers don't mind paying a bit more knowing that they are dealing with a professional company. They know that if they have a plumbing problem, day or night, they will get a professional plumber.

I've seen in posts and in chat one truck operations kicking back and having a drink. So when you are three sheets to the wind and a good customer needs you, what do you do? Having employees certainly has its perks. My husband was sick all last week and he still brought home a full paycheck. Life is good.

So what...raise your rates and pay yourself and the employees more....spiff the image up some, get your name out there. Roll out the red carpet from the van through the front door and bring the homeowner flowers and a gift basket.
I dont offer 24 hr service so having a beer is not a problem after 5pm. I would probably have offers for them to come and get me if i did answer and said I cant drive. I'm not joking.....I had a lady come to my house and knock on my door at 4pm on a saturday to talk to me about replacing two toilets...... caller I.D showed she called 18 times starting at 6:30 saturday morning. I put my phone on silent and forget about it after 5 and on weekends.

TM - Money isn't everything. For now, I am content with the money we earn.

i got that program.. and it works awesome.. gives me a better idea of where i stand and i do believe this will be very very beneficial in many years to come. works awesome.. thanks
also i found out today that a company around here just bumped up their hourly wage to $55 an hour for hvac and plumbing but refrigeration is still $60/hour. they employ 8 field guys and 4 office personnel in the one shop and the other shop they have roughly around 12 field guys and 6 office personnel and this "other" shop is plumbing only. i don't see how they can do it than. any ideas and also they are the biggest hvac/plumbing shop in that area.
