Default Here's another $50/hr radio plumber

New plumber in town..aggressive in the rotary, home show, and radio. I just heard his 5 minute interview($90) on the radio and his line was he's offering $50 for the first hour to "help" people.
When I did new work predominantly I didnt have to deal with much of this because the contractors preferred service over the cheapest price and were a little more saavy to the buying in tactic.
Do you think people jump at this ?

of course they do, thats why the new plumber in town did it. It would cost alot more than $90 to do a 5min interview around here.

Yah, he will pick up a lot of work. Advertising will always increase buisness...Now will he make a profit.... I dont think so....If he has deep pockets and is using this as a lose leader to launch his company to instant fame then in the long run he will become a big player in your area. But if he doesnt have the cash to blow then he will be a flash in the pan.

I think its a good gimmick and people will bite.....but you can bet he's looking for atleast one sucker everyday to cover what its costing him to give that deal.

Is he going to continue these rates forever? Let us assume not, since it seems virtually impossible to maintain operational expenses on such low rates. Then won't his customers be peeved when the second time they call, the "new rates" are much higher than $50 for the first hour? I don't know, it seems like this tactic could backfire badly.

I agree, He will either have to raise his rates and upset customers or just fold because he is working for less than it takes to run a profitable plumbing company.

I did radio and got nothing also, but it's not the fault of the media, sometimes it's the message, either it's content, delivery or both.

Its a bit expensive to experiment but do you think even a good message on radio will pay off?? Demand service to the phone book here ..hard to measure the ones who were reminded about the radio ad while looking in the book. This radio salesman here is relentless.

What he is doing will work if he has the capital to survive while he is doing it. he's using the same tactics as big box. Run a special price on a few items to get you in the store(like he's doing except he's getting into their house) and while your there you end up buying other things that are not on sale(the next few hours or hour from this plumber). Then next time you need somthing your likely to go back to that same store even tho what you may need isn't on sale. He's just taking 50.00 for the 1st hr to get people to try his business....and he's betting they will like it. Better watch out for this guy....sounds like he's serious....he damn sure is putting his money where his mouth is.
