I am new to running my own business as of this year, too. I have had some luck with looking for work on craigslist and with service magic. I have recently started to get a lot of work from local Realtors. They all encourage dropping cards off at their office. It's mostly been small work like updating faucets, fixing burst pipes if the home has been vacant and not properly winterized. I've got a boiler out of it too. Just food for thought. Like the guys said earlier, you have to do small things until your name really gets out. By, the way I started out with a lot less for funds. I paid in for a full year of insurance, i've accumulated tools over the years, and spent a lot of time on craigslist. Goodluck.

Thanks guys. I think I can do it. I need to focus on getting my name out there for a little while. Ill probably spend the summer sprinkling my cards out there at our bathroom remodel jobs, and wait for that phone to ring just enough before I give my notice.

Talking Stickers are better than business cards...

The company I work for now, a bathroom remodel company, said they don't care if I leave a card at the homeowners houses. As long as I don't try to get their bathroom remodel jobs. They said things like Hose bibs, Boilers, Leaks, gas pipe ect. are fine. Just no bathtub replacements and such. kitchen remodels are fine for me to do though. So cool. I do a good job at the customers house, they get to know me, I drop a card and tell them to give me a call for any other service or repair work.

Now I just got to get some business cards made up. How do I do that, just go to office max or something?

what a great way to market my business, while making money.

Do you already have your plumbing LIC yet??
If you work for a place that will let you do that then you are
in a very good position to keep your present job and slowly
get more and more into your own scene...

I do not have a business card, I have a business sticker..

on my sticker I have everyting I do and my LIC ##....
I have the telephone number I intend to keep till I am dead....

If you were to put your sticker on every heater and disposal in every home you worked in , over time you
will have a huge number of them out there...

If you take your sticker to every real estate company in 25 miles and put them in the agents mail boxes, it will generate good customers too...

If you hang them in grocery stores by the doors that works too...

any legitimate print shop can make up 5 thousand of them
for you quickly

Good Idea with the sticker! I'll have to do that. I have to wait till May 5th to take my administrators exam. So Ill wait till I have it done and a license number before I distribute stickers. In fact I think it might be illegal for me to advertise plumbing services without a license. So Ill just wait to be sure.
