Nope! No license required in Ca. if you work for somebody that has the required licenses. From what I've seen you don't even have to know what you're doing.

lastweek I got into an argument with a plumber on here from california talking crap about running pex in a garage exposed and how the codes are so strict in california. Now come to find out you dont even need a license out there now to actually do the work aslong as the owner does??? I think they have it backwards....should require a license to do the work but not own it IMO would be a better deal. Now take no offense to my post...I feel your pain and agree with you. The customer is getting cheated if qualified people are not doing the work.

Illegal imigration is no big deal here, we're used to it.

Santa Cruz is a nice place but $$$ to live. Accoring to a local newspaper, the median home price is $553k.

It's really nice up there. As for needing or not needing a license, it's a little cloudy, but you you do need your journey and can supervise 2 apprentices under that journey. The company must have a C-36. A journey cannot pull permits. As for owner builder....anything goes. With respect to a B license....anything goes. A GC can do damn near anything they want, this myth about needing to be doing at least 2 other trades is a joke.

No fire suppression is allowed to be touched by a c-36.

All contracting companies in california, including plumbing need a license to operate. of course there are guys out there working without licenses. In our area, there is no such thing as a journeyman's license or an apprentice license. All employees are covered by their company's license.
Union companies may perform differently, but California law is as i have stated. experienced plumbers here earn between $50 and $85K per year.

PS housing here is expensive, but has come down a lot in the past couple of years.
