I have now thrown in 2 6 blocks of tubs, to say the least none of them are square. If I level one side the other size can be out by as much as a half bubble. These tubs are 30 inches wide. I split the difference on one tub so the front was 1/8 out and the back was 1/8 out. Boss screamed at me they arent level so I told them they are out of whack. "We havent had problems with them before" I tried screwing them so the screws would pull it straight and it didn't help. Only thing that comes to mind is getting someone to stand on the high side when screwing them in. My weight isnt enough alone.
Im sure this isnt the first time someone had to deal with them and sending them back isnt an option obviously. What can I do for the next block?
Tell the manufacturer to stop pulling them off of the mold before they are fully cured. That's a big problem here. I did a large retirement home community here once, and every damn one of the showers were out of wack. They flipped the bill for the 3 grand in shims, the glass door people were going to charge to the doors in right. And this was supposedly a fiberglass unit made for glass doors. Go figure. Slow down Jorge', your F'n up the mold.
Buy from a different manufacturer (probably too late for that). It's near impossible to pull most warped tubs straight. Apron-front tubs with a tile strip can sometimes be forced a bit. Drop-ins you can't do anything with.
AKdaplumba is in Canada. Of those brands we can get Kohler or Lasco if we wait forever, and Lasco (as pauliplumber says) isn't worth the wait (I tried one shower stall). Never heard of Aker or Swan.
In this country the big names are Maax, Hytec (owned by Kohler) and Acritec. There are a few lesser known ones, like Venco and Glassworld. American Standard makes some ok tubs, but they take forever to ship. They're all fairly even for quality (usually just ok - often pathetic - Venco's are pretty good).
You U.S. guys will like this: Maax made their shower bases here in Canada for decades, and quality was often crap. Lately they've changed production to Bellingham in Washington, and quality is 1000% better. Wonder how long it'll last before the new place lapses into apathy and crap product?
Splitting the difference may be the only option if you can't force them straight (usually impossible, especially for a narrow 30" wide unit). Get the boss to come put one in with you and/or ask him what he suggests.
Futz-I think thats what Im going to do, get the boss to show me how its done. Maybe that will shut him up.
Thx for you input guys!
