We had a house that would moan and bang. The entire system, in every part of the house that had plumbing. All copper. Spent hours there running this, flushing that. There seemed to be no one fixture that would cause all the noise. At times we would run everything right in a row and the sound never came, other times the HO would be woken up in the middle of the night.

We were scheduled a month or so later to start opening up inspection holes in the wall that was loudest after the holidays. One day the HO called and said she might have figured it out. Sure as ****, she did. It was an older ballcock in the upstairs bath. I've heard them chatter and bang in the tank and the wall behind or below, but not the whole house. Same with half open stops at lavs.

The weird thing is even when it wasn't filling the noise would continue for an hour or so. Might help. A cheap fluid master might save a drywall repair or any other repair.

Can't wait to hear what the fix is.

You say he lives out of your work area but does he live out of your bro radius area? If a good friend lives 100 miles or less I'd check it out for him. Add in the curiosity factor and I'm definitely there.

That almost sounds like a sheet metal gravity damper clapping in the wind. The thump sounds like something against wood studs.

Did they eliminate the furnace by the air handler not running when they here it?

To me it doesn't sound like a water line making noise, the tone is wrong.
