I was approached at a local supplier yesterday. By a girl offering me $600 cash. If I called her when I get a slab leak, dishwasher, drain leak etc. . . I am kind of new here in AZ. Is this normal or even legal/legitiment???? Just curious if it's a real way to make a little extra cash. Or a good way to get a bad deal and or name for myself.

Probably a restoration company that's trying to buy leads. There are a few that do that. I'm not a fan because they nail the HO's insurance company with huge bills to cover the finders fee they pay you, among other things. What comes around goes around and while you might not realize it, it'll eventually show up in your premiums too.

I found it strange myself. With my old company in illinois we would do some insurance claims. With one of the local restoration guys. And they used the same estimating program that the insurance compaines used. In fact we were forced to do the plumbing scope according to the insurance pricing as well. So how would they get away with jacking the prices? We usaually were faced with them not allowing enough money for things. Rather than giving in and paying larger bills. When my own home flooded with 19 inches in the basement. They came and recomended a couple people. They showed up and did the work for the exact price as the insurance scope plus my deductable. . So I just don't get how it's working down here. Especially if they are offering referal type fees... Where is their profit?

Believe me, there is a ton of profit in insurance work. They know the game and the numbers they hold subcontractors to is too low and what they bill the insurance company is high. It's all in how it's coded and presented to the insurance company. Some of these restoration cos. are very well connected and insurance adjusters get nice gifts. Happens everyday.
