Plumber hell, should of hired a real welder. Should have been at least a 6-G certified anyway. What about x-rays of the welds? Thats what they used to do to me when something was a potential danger.

Weld x-rays are usually saved for nuclear plants, the process is expensive. There are chemical tests that can be done that are much more reasonable on non lethal welds.

Maybe a Mag/Particle test would have helped, or a Dye/Pen.

The pipe was over 20 years old. I'll bet it failed because of extreme conditions, like wave action or ground shifting. Marin has a history of accidental sewage spills.
