Toilet auger $40.00 + 2 rolls of toilet paper and a gallon of milk
Tub Clog $50.00 + 1 bar of soap and shampoo
Kitcken sink clog $55.00 + a six pack plumbers choice and 2 loafs of bread
Main sewer clog $99.00 + 5 gallons of gas and 2 lbs of lunch meat

The old guys used to tell me that plumbers did OK in the depression because you could always barter for something and everybody needs plumbing.

If you have any doubts, just watch some of the old documentrys on pre WWII Germany and the price of inflation, it took a wheelbarrow full of money to purchase a loaf of bread, the saying was to spend the money before it became worthless.

The German govt. kept printing money to try and please/feed the populace, but it was never enough, thats how Hitler was able to come to power...

Wait... isnt the U.S. govt. printing money that they cannot back with gold...
