Based on the track record of that industry, I'd say guilty until proven innocent. And even then I'd keep an eye on them.

Most home warranty companies will pay you a service call or trip charge to just show up at the home and give a report. This company will not pay that if they don't authorize the repair, they expect the homeowner to then pay for that.

For example, I looked at a toilet for them that the homeowner thought was leaking from the base. The toilet turned out to not have a leak from the base, but needed a new fill valve. The warranty company said that they would pay to replace a wax seal on a toilet, but not to replace a fill valve. Then they said to try and collect my show up fee from the homeowner. That went over as well as a fart in church.

On the other hand, I have gotten a few jobs from them where homeowners have called them for problems and the company told them the problems were not covered, but they gave them my name and number and suggested they call me directly. I did pretty well on those jobs.

I'd be extremely cautious with this company.

I'm not stooping down to that level being sent work through a middle man. It's a dead end ticket and I'm not going to deal with the nonsense of what gets paid and what doesn't.

That's not how it works with my regular customers so I'll do without.
