Default Finally back to work!

Ahola! Just wanted to say thanks to all the great ppl on here that have been supportive to me and other guys hit my the new housing crash and burn. But just after 1 year off I got a call from my old boss. His son was sub-contracting from the co.and wants me on board. <b-c after the couldn't get any of there guys back after massive lay-offs they are just subbing out most of there work now> We worked just for cash for a trial run to see how we worked together and are hitting it off great. So it's kinda weird, after a year of no full time, some bs service/piece rate junk. Full time prospects in my old neighborhoods and around some of the guys I used to work with I couldn't be happier. Thanks Again for all the suppourt, honestly means alot after a few months of sending out apps'

NOW, I need opinions. My buddy is a great guy but saw an oppurtunity and ran with it, he got his contractors lic. so he could work off his own ins./co./etc but the co. master's lic. until he could get his masters which he just passed on Monday.

He is totally and completely supportive that I want to go for my masters and be where he is at. But what he has asked me to do is go for my contractors lic. so he can pay me as a sub. He is a one man show and dosn't want the hassle I guess that comes with employee's, I sent this thru the plumb Board here and said yup, all on the up & up as long as he signed off and I worked under him no worries.

Seems like a great chance for me to hit the ground running, start getting experience having to juggle paperwork and work.

Anyone have any complaints tho- I am really trying to stay above board and would just hate to be going about this the wrong way.

Thanks All, sorry I know a long read

Congrats on getting back to work.

Subbing can work, I know a few who are successful at it. If you mind your P's and Q's then all you have to worry about is getting paid. Personally, I'd get my master P.

Thanks Guys! Yup just filled all the paperwork to go and take the contractors test, then just a simple matter of 13 pounds of flesh & blood, my first born & a few hundred dollars..oh and my soul to get approved thru the MD Home Commission.

@Miguel- Part of the whole reason I am going this route is b-c it will allow my friend to sign off on my hours. I am just a few month's short of going that route! Thanks for the advice, it's all appreciated

Keep in mind if he Subs to you, he isn't paying any L&I or taxes for you, you'll need to cover that cause he will likely 1099 you.

Talking that 1099 stings a lot a year from now

its much cheaper for him to sub it out to you
cause he dont have to pay SS benefits, workmans comp, carry insurance on you or anything.....

its all on you a year from now...
