Default Some great deals out there on used SUVs....

Mostly bad news on the economic front, but recessions do come with their upsides. We need to buy a new family vehicle (our old car is too small and is 10 years old with billion miles on it) and so I started browsing used cars online...HOLY CRAP USED SUVs ARE SELLING CHEAP!!!
I found a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4x4 with 39000 miles for only 12,900!!! To give you an idea of what a bargain that is..this vehicle originally sold for over $30,000! Now less than 40,000 miles later, it is selling for under $13,000. Some people put that many miles on a car in only one or two years, and yet it is selling for less than half its original price. I thought it was too good to be true, so I did a carfax history report and its 100% clean. Mint condition, some old lady must have owned it and hardly drove it.

I am going to take a look at it tomorrow, but if the deal is real I will probably be driving it off the lot.

p.s.: searching regular cars didn't turn up so many bargains, but SUVs in particular must not be selling, people still turned off after the gas craze/recession maybe? I don't know but its awesome!
I also found an Acura MDX going for $16000! This is a fully loaded luxury SUV that brand new costs around $40,000!

If your in the market for an SUV...look at used, its amazing.

...Or buy stocks, I never thought I'd see the DOWJONES this low in my lifetime. I wish I had the cash to invest, but we have other pressing things to spend our budget on.

A little tip,

Go through the auto trans gear by gear. You're listening for a whine from the trans at lower - mid rpms. Also when driving to a stop light depress the brakes and let go of the wheel. See if it pulls to either side. Brake calipers are expensive, so is trannie work! Good Luck

Prices are getting real and if anything good that comes out of this time, it will be a reality check for car makers.

They're cheap for a reason. Jeep sucks for a full-time use....tranny, brakes, on and on. Can't beat them for getting to the cabin, though.

I like my VWs. The VW SUVs are nice. High maintenance in that you have to maintain them or they won't run correctly, but you can't beat the quality/price.

I did some more research and it seems the 2005 JGC model has a faulty transmission design. I am staying away from Chrysler products after what I read!

The only vehicle I have ever given back under the Lemon Law was a 1989 Jeep Grand Wagoneer. I have owned a bunch of Jeeps over the years and the others were fine. I am currently considering a Toyota FJ Cruiser as I am now down to a single 4X4 and it is a crew cab Ford.

I wasn't going to rain on your parade, but I would never buy a Chrysler, ever. Every short cut has been taken and it's just a crappy design...IMHO. Glad you Dodged (no pun intended that bullet!

Oh, BTW, I ended up buying a Honda Pilot....beautiful car. 4x4, seats 8 and rides like a dream. The wife loves it too and that is what matters as I hardly get to drive it. I am always in the work truck.
