Default Ever find a treasure??

i like to frequent our town dump. we call it the mall. there's not alot of things to do around here.

here is a list of things i dragged home and fixed and or cleaned;

new oil fired hot water tank, it smoked like crazy when they fired it up. came from the factory like that. i pulled the piece of metal inside the flue and put in the old style

-washing machine, somebody thought it was broken because it squeaked when in use and jumped across the floor when it was in spin cycle. i removed the transport bar that holds everything in place during transport. yeah, the rod with the big yellow tag on it that say,"remove before using washing machine".

2-ovens, 1 with an electronic glitch that my friend fixed, the other 1, i don't know why it was thrown out, all i needed to do was replace the oven elements.

furniture, tools, truck/car/atv/snowmobile/bicycle parts, wood.

i'm an artist also so i am always finding metals to work with.

2-160 watt speakers, must have been stored in a damp place, wiped off the little bit of surface mold with a disinfectant, i like them.

found a near complete hardwood dining room set in montreal.

my cool 70's helmet. i feel like the canadian easy rider when i use it. it needs some work, just like me. this is my #1 prized find to date. sorry, but i am proud to be canadian, (oops, i think i just apologized for being canadian) and God save queen what's her face.

countertop commercial mixer, i cleaned the little bit of smoke damage, replaced the gear grease with brand new non-toxic grease. just gotta order a couple of attachments and it's good to go.

countertop dishwasher that leaked through the viewing window on the door. did somebody say leak?? fixed.

delta 10" mitre saw, needs a couple of parts to bring it up to snuff.

just recently i found a small rotisserie. it was only missing the drip pan so i cut a cookie pan down to size and folded the corners to prevent leakage. no i didn't dig the cookie pan out of the garbage. even i have my limits.

i strip old leather furniture for the leather.

i've recycled computer fans into a floor fan.

i should write a book about 101 uses for old pallets.

more will come to me.

have you ever saved something from the garbage and fixed it?

Vince,

How about showcasing some of your art one of these days.

The only thing I ever found at the dump was a spot to get rid of all my JUNK!

i found this broken P-51 mustang.

at the time i didn't have a picture to go by. i did it from memory.

it didn't have a canopy are ailerons? the rear wings that control pitch.

some bits and pieces of another model airplane, some aluminum tape. i don't remember what i made the canopy out of.

it's not exact, but i like it.

Vince

When I was younger I used to pull tons of stuff out of the trash. Computers, tvs, monitors, anything at all with a motor on it and some. I made a decent bit of money for a kid fixing things and selling them. Nowadays it isn't really worth it anymore. I have some cool stuff I've pulled out of the trash but I can't think of anything off hand.

I've got thousands of dollars worth of tools from a family member who buys foreclosure houses and doesn't go through them. He considers his time too valuable and just hires someone to cart all the garbage out. I usually go through them before the junk guy gets there and have his permission to keep anything I find under five grand in value. The cream of that crop was a threading set. Their was a brand spanking new Ridgid 700 machine, new Ridgid 460 chain vice, used set of 12r dies, a few hand threaders and an oilier that's seen better days. Tons of hand tools and automotive tools as well.
