I was at a party hosted by a member of my wife's extended family this evening. It was a beautiful new construction home and they were having their basement finished. I was down stairs looking at the work that had been done with the owner and asked to see the bath room.
At this point drywall was finished and painted, trim installed, no flooring and the plumbing was still in rough in stage. This is where things went horribly wrong.
First I noticed the drain for the walk in shower was rediculously off center. Then I realized that it was in fact the original 3 inch water closet rough in 90. No trap. In concrete. But built into a brand new shower stall just waiting for shower pan and finish work. Then I saw the backwater valve where the water closet rough in should have been. Complete with water service and all. The owner told me that the plan was to set the toilet right on top of the valve. To his credit he had absolutely no idea what a backwater valve was or that he even had one until I brought it to his attention. Also, the location of the water line was way too high and almost centered with the WC rough. not to mention all the water lines for toilet and lav were just pex lines hanging out of the wall with shark bite caps on them.
Until I walked into the bathroom I was completely impressed with the work. We are talking 10 ft ceilings. Concave and convex curing walls. Arches with the support beams enclosed and beautifully trimmed out.
I guess what Im getting at is I cant believe that the plumbing was so completely botched in a job that seemed to be done so well. He is asking me to give him a bid to fix the drains. I do this work everyday for the company that I currently plumb for but I am not licensed so I feel shady about it. I also need the money. I have a family to support after all.
I was wondering if any one else has ever ran into a situation even remotely like this and how they dealt with it? Thanx.

Somebody once said that if it doesn't make you $, or make you happy, don't do it. So I guess beating down unlicensed plumbers makes me happy. This guy is in my backyard, unlicensed, uninsured. Not even a journeyman plumber. I am loosing work to this guy because I have legitimate overhead to pay for. I talked to the State Enforcement Division. What a joke. E mailed my state representative:laughing: More of the same. So I took matters into my own hands and called him out on Google reviews. This got his attention quickly. Now he says he won't be doing plumbing work, just drain cleaning until his "paper work" problems are cleared up. It's working, I think other plumbers are jumping on board writing reviews and pulling his B.S. rating down a few stars. Anybody else try this. And yes I do have to much time on my hands, If I had more work I wouldn't even know this guy was out there.:furious:

In a service business, you run into a lot of different people. A big mistake some make is assuming everyone operates under the same set of values. ...

In a service business, you run into a lot of different people. A big mistake some make is assuming everyone operates under the same set of values. It's not easy, but it is best to ignore what people say and trust your instincts when observing their actions.

Ignoring your instincts may lead to your own demise as shown below:

A turtle was happily swimming along a river when a scorpion hailed it from the shore.

"Dear friend turtle!" called the scorpion. "Please let me climb upon your back and swim me to the other side of the river!"

"No," replied the turtle, "for if I do, you shall sting me, and I shall die."

"Nonsense!" replied the scorpion. "If I kill you in the middle of the river, you shall sink, and I shall drown and die with you."

The turtle thought this over, and saw the truth of the scorpion's statement. He let it upon his back and began swimming towards the other side of the river. Halfway across, he felt a sharp pain in the back of his neck.

"Why have you stung me?!" cried the turtle as his body began to stiffen. "Now you shall die as well!"

"Because it is in my nature," replied the scorpion as the turtle sank beneath the waters.

and this one

A young girl was trudging along a mountain path, trying to reach her grandmother's house. It was bitter cold, and the wind cut like a knife. When she was within sight of her destination, she heard a rustle at her feet.

Looking down, she saw a snake. Before she could move, the snake spoke to her. He said, "I am about to die. It is too cold for me up here, and I am freezing. There is no food in these mountains, and I am starving. Please put me under your coat and take me with you."

"No," replied the girl. "I know your kind. You are a rattlesnake. If I pick you up, you will bite me, and your bite is poisonous."

"No, no," said the snake. "If you help me, you will be my best friend. I will treat you differently."

The little girl sat down on a rock for a moment to rest and think things over. She looked at the beautiful markings on the snake and had to admit that it was the most beautiful snake she had ever seen.

Suddenly, she said, "I believe you. I will save you. All living things deserve to be treated with kindness."

The little girl reached over, put the snake gently under her coat and proceeded toward her grandmother's house.

Within a moment, she felt a sharp pain in her side. The snake had bitten her.

"How could you do this to me?" she cried. "You promised that you would not bite me, and I trusted you!"

"You knew what I was when you picked me up," hissed the snake as he slithered away.

Well I got my contract renewed for another year at the small private college. They did lay off or fire 15 people. Only 2 of the housekeepers in the dept. I guess since I was the only plumber they decided to keep me. They said enrollment was at 1050 students, I don't think it could be much over 700 kids. A kid can go to the University of Alabama cheaper than at this college. The outside appearence is nice, but the buildings are falling down, some have no AC, After the lay-off the professors and President got a 3% raise. :censored: I am a master plumber making 34,000 a year on salary, work 60 plus hr week no overtime , out of my own vehicle, Oh they finally did give me 1 tank of gas per week. Health insurance is to high to afford through them and our retirement that they are suppose to match has been suspended for over 2 years. I am not just *****ing and moaning but the pisser is when the upper management gets all the brakes and screw the little man and then blame it on the economy. Alabama politics, A governor that got Ala courts to overturn a jury decision of 3 billion dollars against Exxon for back royalities owed to the state, and now just went up to 20 more percent on proration for the state. Oh by the way out of 25,000 claims against BP just for the state of Alabama, BP has paid 1000. Now they are offering 30 cents on the dollar for settlements, it is a joke. If these poor ass people don't settle BP will drag it out 20 or so years. They are not going to pay, they never intended to pay. I am fed up with this mess, know ones word is worth a crap. Big buisness that come to alabama, is like having an off-shore account. Don't get me even started on Education in Alabama. Everything is :censored:
Now everyone have a good day and a great holiday weekend.

A hardware retailer hired a new man. The job description was to remove tiles on the 2nd floor which were obsolete and take them to the lower level where they were to be discarded. After 1/2 hour on the job the new employee was injured. The following is the report submitted by the employee as to how the accident happened.

"Thinking I could save time on my new job I rigged a beam on the roof of the building, on this beam I fastened a pulley. Through the pulley I put a rope. I went to the yard below and tied a barrel to the rope. I pulled on the rope and the barrel went to the 2nd floor. I tied the rope to a tree. I then went back to the 2nd floor and filled the barrel with tiles. When the barrel was full I went down and untied the rope from the tree. Unknown to me the barrel weighed more than I did. I was jerked off the ground. So as not to fall I held on to the rope. Halfway up, I met the barrel coming down. I received a severe blow to my left shoulder, continuing up I banged my head on the beam, my fingers were pinched in the pulley. When the barrel hit the ground it broke open spilling the tiles on the ground. I now weighed more than the barrel. On the way down I met the barrel coming up. I received severe lacerations to my shins. When I hit the ground I landed on the tiles receiving severe cuts and contusions. At this point I must have become confused and let go of the rope. The barrel came down striking me on the head, and I woke up in the hospital."
